I have been using Quora for quite a long time and I have found it very useful. So, I thought to write an article on how to promote your website. Many of you might be well known with Quora website. But keeping newbies in mind, I am giving a brief introduction about Quora. Quora was founded in June 2009 by two former Facebook employees. The website was made available to the public on June 21, 2010. It is simply a ‘Questions – Answers’ service where people ask their questions and get their answers. Most helpful and interesting answers get Upvotes (similarly like we have ‘Like’ on Facebook). It is similar to Yahoo Answers and Ask.com where people could post questions and other users could answer them. But these forums sites or forums have lost their value now. They are no more appearing in SERPs. But Quora is much better than them and the best thing is that Google is also giving value to Quora. So if you have to promote your website on google, you should give it a try definitely. Quora is indexed in Google that means people typing in that question into Google search have a good chance of stumbling on your answers. Quora is one of the best ways to promote website. I like Quora digest feature. Quora Digest is an email sent by Quora which contains answers which Quora thinks you might like to see. One another good news is there is Quora App also available. Quora app is available for windows, android and iOS phones. You can download it on your mobile and use it on the go. It is a light weight app with a good interface and easy to navigate. First, you will need to create your account. You can use your Facebook, Google+ or email to sign up. Once you have signed up, set up your profile. Take your time and fill it wisely. The profile should depict your interested topics and knowledge. Most of the people do not give much attention to BIO but always remember that the perfect Quora profile starts with the perfect bio. Your bio appears with the answers you give, so it should be a signal to the readers that you are qualified to answer those questions. Mention your brand or website name in the beginning. The best thing is you can give a custom bio for all the topics (Just click on ‘Edit Bio’ under the topic you want to give custom Bio). And you can see how many answers you have written under that category or topic.

Search questions based on your topic or niche and follow people who participate in discussions. Your follows and upvotes appear in users’ Quora notifications, so you have good chances of getting followed back. It is good to upvote others’ answers and give credits to them if you like their answers. They will be notified and there are many chances he/she will open your profile and might follow you. Following other users with related interests can enable small business owners to develop relationships with other business owners.
Next step is to integrate Quora with other social networks, such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn etc. It will help you to get more exposures to your answers. Yes, you read it right. At Quora, you can create your own blog and publish stories. It will help you to showcase your brand name. To do so, click on ‘Blogs’ under your profile pic and click on ‘Create A Blog’.

Now, the most important thing is to understand how to craft your answers. If you learn it properly, your wish to use Quora to promote your website will be true. This is where most people make a mistake. There is no direct formula for this but while answering the questions, you can keep following things in mind:
Use Text Formatting Properly
Format your text wisely. Make use of heading tags, bold, and italics. It helps to make certain points catchy. It keeps visitors to stick to your answers. Similarly, you can use bullet points or numbered list (ordered list or unordered list whatever suits you best).
Adding Image To Your Answer
As you know, an image speaks a thousand words. Pictures are the best way to makes your answer stick. Many of the top Quora users add images to their answers to help support their point. And these images are also great attention-getters. Make sure you are adding relevant and helpful images to your answers wherever possible.
Provide Answer In Detail
While answering any question, do not be in the hurry. Analyze the question and give the best and appropriate answer; no matter how long it is. People love to read in depth answers. You need to spend time writing a long, thoughtful answer. But there is a catch in this – Do not explain everything. Why? Confused? The simple answer is – this is the key to driving traffic to your blog. When answering questions, make sure you provide enough value to get upvotes and views but not so much that you give away all the details. Find the various points where you can link to your website to provide additional values rather than simply mentioning everything in your answer itself.

Mention (@) Your Competition
While answering a question, you can tag other writers who have answered the question before you. It means that you liked their answers and giving credit to them. If you want you can appreciate their answer and can add your knowledge to the answer also. The reason for doing this is that Quora notifies them that you have mentioned them in an answer. It can help you to build a network with such people.

Share your Answers on Social Networks
When you write any answer, make sure to share it on social networks (that you integrated with your Quora profile earlier) as well. It helps to maximize search engine indexing. When a user searches Google, your Quora answer can appear in SERPs as sharing on other networks improves visibility. Because Google indexes Facebook and Twitter shares, sharing Quora content can create the link trail that appeals to search engines. The best thing is Quora allows you to ‘Auto – Share’ your answers to your connected social networks. All you have to do is select the ‘checkbox’ with respect to Social network you want to share. As you can see in below snapshot, I have selected both Twitter and Facebook.
Maintain Your Authority
Once you have answered a couple of questions in a particular category or topics, you will start to notice that Quora users will request for you to answer their questions as well. It shows you have gained authority on that particular topic.
Quora gives ‘Most Viewed Writer’ badge when you gain authority in any topic. E.g. I got a similar badge in one of the topics – Bounce Rates. You can read about Bounce rate in my this article.
Do not over promote yourself
Quora is a community to help people. Do not spam. Never over promote your website or product. Mentioning your website link to add value to your answer and gain some exposure is acceptable. But as you know, the excess of everything is bad. So, promote wisely.
