How To Choose Right Title & Primary Image For Your Content

Do you want people to notice your article among other contents on the web? While interesting topics give you an advantage in grabbing readers’ interest, you also need to pay attention to small but important things as title and primary picture. After all, the headline and the accompanying main photo are the first things that your audience gets to see.

All you need to get reader’s attention is catchy title and bride picture

Remember! You will never make the readers even to look through your article if you do not have a captivating headline and relevant main image.

You may think that this also depends on the topic and the theme of your article, but it is not true. It doesn’t matter what the topic is, regardless if it’s serious or funny, scary or pleasant, people notice the title and the picture first, and only then they decide whether to read the article or to miss it.

You may have the best content ever, but without a relevant headline and picture, you won’t be able to interest anyone. To sell your content you need these two things.

This article is written to help you to overcome such problems as writing a good title and choosing a perfect head picture.

There are dozens of ways to make your headline and the main picture noticed. Here’s a list of the finest and the easiest ones.

First of all, we will discuss the significance of choosing the relevant main picture for your website or article.

  • Make your headline and picture work together.

You must remember that the major picture should demonstrate the information about the title and the text. This photo is the first thing that people notice when they open the page.

Readers should instantly have an idea about the content of your article or website simply by taking a look at the main photo. If it doesn’t have a direct connection with your content and headline, there are high chances that the readers will miss your article.

  • Make the head picture visible.

If the photo is too trivial, it won’t play the needed role. The picture itself should be interesting enough to catch the reader’s attention. Photo size should be large enough to be noticeable to the readers, and its colors striking.

If the readers will have a hard time looking at a very small photo or its colors are dull, it gives the impression that the article is boring.

  • Consider your context – it is not enough for the main picture to be just beautiful.

Choose the picture according to the context of your article. What is your article about–inspirational advice, life hacks, self-help, fitness? Or what emotions do you want your readers to feel?

Pick curious, charming, touching or even scary photos that capture the ambiance or atmosphere of your article or website. Not only will it make your article appeal to the reader’s visual taste, it can also convey the general sentiment of the content.

Beautiful photos can work, but it will be better if it enhances the idea of what is written.

  • Ask for help.

If you don’t have much experience in choosing right pictures, the opinion of your friends will be helpful.

Let them look at the title and at the picture. They will understand whether your choice is good from the first look. This will help you to see the audience’s opinion more clearly.

Perhaps, it won’t be so necessary with time and experience.

The second part of our article is about ways of writing the best possible headline.

It may become a real challenge for someone, but it is only because they haven’t seen the tips that are written below.

  • Make it simple.

Get to the point!

When you clearly and directly write your headline using simple facts, you bring your readers clear information. It will be easier for them to get what you are trying to say.

For example: “Great sale-off from (some brand-name)” lets your readers know that that brand is slashing the price of their products.

  • Write title using the information from your context.

Make sure that your title clearly describes the main topic of your article.

While click-baiting makes sure that readers will go to your website, there are bad clickbait titles that do not exactly reflect the information found in the article itself.

Readers will be disappointed if the title and the article information will be different. For instance, if your article is about a weight loss product, don’t use headlines about someone losing belly fat in three days the natural way. It will mislead your readers, and increase chances that they will exit your website right away.

Construct your headlines that it stays true to your content, but is still engaging to your audience.

  • Do not neglect the value of word count.

Five to eight words.

According to Essays Scholar Advisor, that is the ideal word length of a title. It is neither too short or too long. In fact, they advise against using headlines that are too long or too short, but also remind that headlines should be rich and relevant in the information.

For example: “Buy our books!” is direct to the point. The problem with it though is it doesn’t have enough information for the reader. On the other hand, a title that is too long will scare readers away, because we know that they prefer simple things.

For example: “Buying the amazing fiction books we offer on our website will influence your life in a positive way.” Such long titles take out the impact on the readers. “Amazing books that can influence your life positively” sounds better as a title without misleading your readers or boring them.

  • Promise something to your audience.

If there is anything that your readers will get from you, you need to write about it in your headline. Benefits are very attractive to anyone. Moreover, the promise you give motivates them to read your proposal. For example: “Fast and easy way to prepare a delicious cake.”

  • Make your title specific.

Aside from length, you also need to watch out for vague titles! If the title is too general, it won’t resonate with the right audience.

Be specific about what your content is about. Since headlines and titles are the first things that readers read, they should instantly understand what your article is about based on the title.

For example: “Tips for a new life for those who start everything from the beginning.” It is quite hard to understand what this headline is about, so most of the people will not read it. It is better to make such a title: “Start a new career with helpful tips.”

  • Feel your audience.

When writing your headline, you should think of your target audience. To whom are you directing your thoughts? What is their demographics–age, gender, residence, preferences?

Think of what your target readers need, and give it to them. You also need to be sensitive to the kind of language you are going to use depending on your readers.

For instance, using slang won’t be appropriate for articles directed to elder people. Let’s take this as an example: “Does your bro know about the coolest hearing aids of nowadays?” While it is easy to understand that you are targeting people who use hearing aids, such headline will miss almost every elder person that you want to market your product to. However, they will notice this: “Do you know about the newest hearing aids? They really help!”

  • Try to interest your readers.

You may do this by asking a question, for instance.

Questions make your readers be involved and interested. Yet, you must remember when you ask a question in your title, the answer to this question has to be simple: yes or no.

The desire of your readers to hear this answer will motivate them to read your article. You also can formulate your headline as an order. By doing this, you tell the readers what to do. Such sentences motivate people very much. For example: “Stop wasting your time working for someone, create your own business!”

  • Don’t forget about the keywords.

One of the most important things when writing your title is the use of keywords. It helps show the reader what your article is about.

Moreover, keywords also help your article reach interested readers when they search through search engines and online databases. An effective keyword selection will enable you to be on the top of the search query.

To determine which keywords you should use, you can imagine yourself as a reader, and ask which keyword you would input in the search bar yourself if you are looking for the kind of article that you are going to write.

Example, if the focus of your article is a piece of exercise equipment, relevant keywords that can appear in your title is fitness, exercise, healthy, and wellness.
