Chewing gum is the passion among people and mostly among the teenagers. Many of us use to have chewing gum in their mouth while doing their work or any other acvtivities. There is a good news that has been come up with a great effects that Chewing gum can help you stay focused for longer on tasks that require continuous monitoring, a new study has claimed. A study had been carried out and volunteers were split into two groups and were then tested on their ability to spot odd-even-odd number sequences in lists which were randomly read aloud to them. One group chewed gum during the task, while the other group did not.
There were the team of 38 individuals who took part in the study in total, and findings showed that while chewers and non-chewers performed equally at the beginning of the task, chewers performed better throughout.
“Interestingly, participants who didn’t chew gum performed slightly better at the beginning of the task but were overtaken by the end,” said Morgan, of the University of Cardiff.
Kate Morgan, who conducted the study, said: “It’s been well established by previous research that chewing gum can benefit some areas of cognition.
“In our study we focused on an audio task that involved short-term memory recall to see if chewing gum would improve concentration, especially in the latter stages of the task,” he added.
